Course Description
This course covers the different mechanisms of natural weathering; how and why coatings deteriorate; what methods have been developed that allow deterioration to be duplicated at an accelerated rate; and determining the overall coating performance.
Course Content
- Mechanisms of Natural Coating Deterioration
- Atmospheric Testing (Natural Weathering) of Coatings
- Artificial Accelerated Weathering Tests
Benefits of Attending
After attending this course, you will be able to:
- The natural elements that cause weathering of coatings
- Field exposure testing procedures
- Different accelerated testing procedures
Course Format
Each participant will receive a comprehensive manual that includes references for additional reading and copies of relevant handouts.
A written multiple-choice exam is given at the conclusion of the course. To receive a certificate and CEUs, you must attend the entire course and attain a 70% or better score on the exam.
The class includes a lecture about natural and accelerated weathering of coatings combined with workshops.
Who Should Attend
Technical service representatives, consultants, engineers, and others interested in learning more about coating weathering. A prior basic understanding of coatings chemistry is required.
DOD Funded Training
Under the DoD Corrosion Prevention and Control Program, funding has been provided to train DoD, Army, Navy and Airforce personnel in SSPC’s C1 Course.
