SSPC's Concrete Coating Inspector program provides several different paths to certification as outlined below. The path you take depends on your current level of experience and training.

PATH 1
Six-Day Training and Certification Option
Take this path if: You have basic training and have 2-years of experience and formal training.
- Take the Two-Day Concrete Coating Basics Course (CCB) immediately prior to the Four-Day Concrete Coating Inspector Program (CCI).
- You must pass the course exams and meet the experience prerequisites in order to take the certification exam. For more details, click below:

- Identify specified concrete surface preparation methods

- Devise and implement job-specific pre-job conferences & work plans
- Observe, assess and document concrete repairs as determined by the specification

- Prepare an inspection plan/procedure
Course Format
Each participant will receive a comprehensive manual with copies of relevant SSPC standards.
The course includes lecture, hands-on workshops, quizzes, written homework and assigned readings from the manual.
DAY 1-2
The first two days of the program are designed to provide an overview of concrete components, coating and surfacing types and surface preparation and substrate repair techniques. At the end of Day 2, the training exam is given. You must pass the training exam with a 70% or better to move on to Day 3-5.
DAY 3-5
Days 3-5 of the program are devoted to classroom lecture about planning and providing third party quality assurance through inspection from pre-surface preparation through post coating application. Lectures are supplemented by quizzes and group exercises. At the end of Day 5, the technician exam is given. The technician written exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions and a hands-on test in the practical use of instruments. A passing grade of 70% or higher on the written and hands-on technician exam is required to move on to certification exam given on Day 6.
DAY 6
On Day 6 the concrete coating inspector certification exam is given. The certification examination includes a 100 multiple choice question written exam, an inspection plan development exam and a hands-on test on the practical use of instruments. A passing grade of 80% or higher on the written, inspection plan and hands-on certification exam is required to become an SSPC Concrete Coating Inspector.

Inspectors, contractor managers, specifying engineers, technical representatives and material and equipment suppliers involved in the concrete coating industry.
DoD Funded Training
Under the DoD Corrosion Prevention and Control Program, funding has been provided to train DoD, Army, Navy and Airforce personnel in SSPCs CCI Course. - issuing warnings to inspectors
- placing inspectors on probation
- suspending, revoking, or denying certification of inspectors who are cited for critical faults in safety, workmanship, ethical practice, and criminal law, that have been reported and verified
Students wishing to sit for the certification exam must attend the entire five-day program. Students failing the technician exam may take the program again to qualify for the certification exam after a 6-month waiting period.

Take this path if: You have basic training or experience and wish to bypass the two-day "Basics" course.
- Take the Concrete Coating Basics (CCB) On-Line Exam, and attend the Four-Day Concrete Coating Inspector Certification Program (CCI). You must pass the course exam and meet the experience prerequisites in order to take the certification exam. For more details, click below:

Online Exam
Prior to attending Day 1-4 of the program the candidate must take the Coating Concrete Basics Exam Online. The exam will cover the following topics:

- Coating and Surfacing Concrete
- Condition Assessment
- Planning and Documenting Work
- Concrete Repair and Surface Preparation
- Treatment of Concrete Joints
- Readiness Prior to Installation
- General Installation Guidelines
- Concrete Sealers
- Concrete Primers
- Concrete Coatings/Topcoats
- Application Methods
- Post-Installation Quality Assurance
Since the candidate has elected to forgo the SSPC Coating Concrete Basics classroom-training component that covers the above content, the candidate must be prepared to be tested with no course content provided for review before the exam.
How Often is the Exam Offered?
The SSPC Coating Concrete Basics Exam is available any day of the month. Once you have registered for the exam, SSPC will send you an e-mail with a User ID and Password to start taking the exam.
Exam Process:
The exam is corrected automatically and you will know your results right away. You must pass the training exam with a 70% or better to take Day 1-4 of the program. The written exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions.
DAY 1-3
Days 1-3 of the program are devoted to classroom lecture about planning and providing third party quality assurance through inspection from pre-surface preparation through post coating application. Lectures are supplemented by quizzes and group exercises. At the end of Day 3, the technician exam is given. The technician written exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions and a hands-on test in the practical use of instruments. A passing grade of 70% or higher on the written and hands-on technician exam is required to move on to certification exam given on Day 4.
DAY 4
On Day 4 the concrete coating inspector certification exam is given. The certification examination includes a 100 multiple-choice question written exam, an inspection plan development exam and a hands-on test in the practical use of instruments at workstations. A passing grade of 80% or higher on the written and hands-on certification exam is required to become an SSPC Concrete Coating Inspector.

Previously Trained?
Candidates who have taken the SSPC Floor Coating Basics (C-10) or have previously taken the Concrete Coating Basics Program (CCB) are approved to move right onto Day 1-3 of the Concrete Coating Inspector Program (CCI). These candidates must also meet the pre requisite experience requirements that are listed in the link above.

Certification Term and Renewal
Course Format
Since the candidate has elected to forgo the SSPC Coating Concrete Basics and the Concrete Coating Inspector Program classroom-training component that covers the below content, the candidate must be prepared to be tested with no course content provided for review before the exam. These candidates must also meet the pre requisite experience requirements that are listed in the link above.

DAY 1
On Day 1 the concrete coating inspector certification exam is given. The certification examination includes a 100 multiple-choice question written exam, an inspection plan development exam and a hands-on test in the practical use of instruments. A passing grade of 80% or higher on the written and hands-on certification exam is required to become an SSPC Concrete Coating Inspector.
Who Should Attend
Inspectors, contractor managers, specifying engineers, technical representatives and material and equipment suppliers involved in the concrete coating industry.
DoD Funded Training
Under the DoD Corrosion Prevention and Control Program, funding has been provided to train DoD, Army, Navy and Airforce personnel in SSPCs CCI Course. Non-Members of SSPC can search for basic certification status of individuals by Clicking here and once you are logged into your Marketplace Account, be sure to click on the "Member and Certification Search" tab in the upper right hand side of the page. There you can look for other SSPC members, and verify the Certification status of individuals in the marketplace, but as a non-member of SSPC the search results do not include contact info in the search results. Non-Members of SSPC are also invited to contact the Certification Coordinator at SSPC to assist in the verification of an individual's certification status. The program also employs a Disciplinary Action Criteria (DAC) and administrative procedures establishing rules for:
- issuing warnings to inspectors
- placing inspectors on probation
- suspending, revoking, or denying certification of inspectors who are cited for critical faults in safety, workmanship, ethical practice, and criminal law, that have been reported and verified
Students wishing to sit for the certification exam must attend the entire five-day program. Students failing the technician exam may take the program again to qualify for the certification exam after a 6-month waiting period.

- Take the Two-Day Concrete Coating Basics Course (CCB) followed immediately by the first three days of the Concrete Coating Inspector (CCI) Program.

Coating Concrete Basics On-Line Exam Plus Three-Day Concrete Coating Inspector (CCI) Program Option
- Take the Concrete Coating Basics (CCB) Online Exam, and attend the first three days of the Concrete Coating Inspector Program (CCI).
- You will take only the course exam for this program.
