SSPC Panama Chapter Launches with Technical Session and Celebration

The newly chartered SSPC Panama Chapter opened with an afternoon technical session and evening chapter charter celebration at the Hard Rock Hotel in Panama City, Panama. The session and celebration attracted over 150 attendees, representing a diverse audience of asset owners, engineers, contractors, quality assurance/control personnel, along with manufacturers, and equipment and service providers from the protective coatings industry. The session and celebration also attracted attendees from outside of Panama with representation from Columbia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru.

SSPC Executive Director Bill Worms who also attended had this to say about the chapter technical session, “The technical session, which was hosted by the SSPC Panama Chapter was a tremendous success, and a clear indication of the passion and interest industry experts have in attempting to address their corrosion challenges. SSPC is totally committed to supporting these types of initiatives, and any others which provide a benefit to those in the industrial coatings industry.”

The technical session featured seven speakers and covered subjects such as; coatings on concrete, corrosion control using coatings, surface preparation using abrasives, quality control, and water jetting. SSPC Panama Chapter Interim Chair Juan Caballero, MCI said that the session and attendee participation “surpassed the expectations of the chapter members”. Juan Caballero also stated that the mission of the chapter will be “to close the gap of knowledge and standards in our region for the common industry benefit”.

The chapter’s technical session and celebration was made possible with sponsorship from PPG Industries, Marine Metal Coatings Inc, Blasting Experts Ltd, Naval and Industrial Solutions, Industrias Correagua, Colegio de Ingenieros Civiles de Panama, and INFOCORROSION.
