OSHA Proposes To Fine Employers When Workers Lack Proper PPE
New Rule Would Amend Standards for Construction, Maritime, and General Industry.
Employers who do not provide personal protective equipment and proper training to their employees will be exposed to fines and liability issues under a proposed rule that would amend the agency's standards for Construction, Maritime, and General Industry. The amendment is designed to clarify inconsistencies in the standards and allow the agency to assess high penalties in cases of flagrant violations. The proposed amendments do not add any new compliance obligations for employers. Instead the remedies for violations of existing requirements will be clarified.
A public hearing about this ruling will be held at the U.S. Department of Labor's Frances Perkins Building, 200 Constitution Ave. N.W., Conference Room C-5320 #6, in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 6 and 7.
