OSHA Silica Guidance Released

Dust control measures stressed.

OSHA has released a new guidance document on controlling silica exposures in construction by using a "tool-and-task" approach. The nine sections cover such things as saws, grinders, mortar removal, rotary hammer use, and general housekeeping. Dust control through wet methods, vacuum dust collection systems, fans, and respiratory protection is addressed for each section.

Periodic monitoring through engineering and work practice controls and use of proper respiratory protection is also encouraged.
