Scientists Say Beryllium Acceptable Exposure Limits Too High
Advise OSHA to Change Standard
The National Research Council has advised OSHA that the current beryllium standard of 2 micrograms per cubic meter of air is not stringent enough to protect workers and is not in line with the Department of Energy's recommendation of 0.2 micrograms. The NRC also calls for employer-based exposure and disease-management programs as well as further studies into beryllium exposure through the skin.
