Five Coating Applicators Killed; Four Injured in Colorado Tunnel Fire
Federal and state investigation underway.
Five coating applicators were killed and four others were injured when a fire broke out in a tunnel at a Georgetown, Colorado, power station on Oct. 2. The workers were applying an anticorrosive epoxy inside a 12-foot wide pipe at the time. The four workers who escaped were treated for minor injuries at a Denver hospital and released. The five other workers were discovered 1,400 feet beyond the fire site, which was 1,400 feet from the tunnel entrance.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board have joined OSHA officials at the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
