Knee Pads Protect Knees, Improve Production, Says NIOSH
Although no specific OSHA regulation requires the use of knee
pads on construction sites, NIOSH reports that use of knee pads
as personnel protective equipment can reduce injuries and increase
production.
According to questionnaires sent out by NIOSH, workers reported
that when they worked without knee pads, they suffered pain and
inflammation, or they had to slow their pace to avoid injury.
As a result of the study, NIOSH recommends that employers provide
knee pads to workers, (e.g in our industry, those who replace and
apply floor coatings) who kneel on the job to reduce pressure on
the knee and enable workers to work without pain, discomfort or
inflammation.
