Current Status of SSPC Standards in Development

CURRENT HIGHLIGHTS
New SSPC Committees Forming:
- C.1.9, Polyurea Coatings: The committee will develop standards for a performance-based two-component, aromatic thick-film polyurea coating system and for applying polyurea and/or polyurethane thick film coatings to concrete and steel
- C.1.12, Painting Galvanized Steel Surfaces: This committee will develop a draft guide for surface preparation, selection and application of coatings over galvanized surfaces.
- C.1.13 Coatings for Wastewater Treatment Facilities: The committee will complete a guide to selection and application of coating systems for concrete in wastewater treatment facilities.
- C.2.12, Number and Location of Soluble Salt Test Sites on Steel Surfaces: The committee will develop a standard for the number and location of sites for taking measurements using commercially available soluble salt measurement kits.
- C.2.13, Impact of Water Soluble Salt Contamination on Protective Coatings: The committee will prepare a consensus report reviewing the basic chemistry and physics of soluble salts and how salt contamination may impact the performance of protective coatings. The report will also provide an extensive review of the coatings literature.
- C.2.14, Specifying and Implementing Dehumidification on Protective Coatings Projects: The committee will provide guidance to owners and specifiers for incorporating dehumidification requirements into project specifications; and for contractors and inspectors to ensure proper installation and functioning of a dehumidification system.

- C.1.8, Fluoropolymer Coatings: The committee will complete a technology update on fluoropolymer coatings
- C.3.2, Measurement of Dry Coating Thickness: The committee plans to revise SSPC-PA 2.
- C.5.3A, Containment of Hazardous Surface Preparation Debris: The committee plans to revise SSPC-Guide 6.
- C.3.5, Contractor Pre-Qualification: The committee will revise the SSPC-QP 1 standard.
