Course Description
The objective of this course is to provide office-based project managers in industrial painting contracting firms with valuable management tools, tips, and techniques that can be used every day to help participants better manage their
projects in ways that increase business profits. Topics include contracts, employee relations, safety, economics,
and other issues that have legal and financial implications, plus hands-on exercises in navigating complex
challenges with bid formats, project coordination on the job-site, and risk planning. It is not the intent of the
course to provide legal or financial advice, or a “set format” for running a business, but attendees will learn
skills to help jobs run more smoothly and profitably in the future.

Course Format
Students and instructor discuss of all aspects of successful project management from identifying potential jobs and navigating the bidding process through planning, execution, and acceptance and close-out. This is supplemented by workshops that sample key issues project managers face every day. The afternoon of Day 2 is devoted to a multi-part exam in which participants demonstrate what they’ve learned in the classroom by resolving a “real-world” project management scenario.
