The Concrete Coating Basics (CCB) eCourse is a prerequisite to attend the SSPC Concrete Coating Inspector Program (CCI).

Certification Term & Renewal

All CCI Level 1 students must re-certify in the fourth year from their initial certification date.

Course Description

The objective of this course is to thoroughly train individuals in the proper methods of inspecting surface preparation and installation of protective coatings on industrial concrete structures and facilities.

Course Format

Each participant will receive a comprehensive manual with references of relevant SSPC standards. The course includes lecture, hands-on workshops, quizzes, written homework, and assigned readings from the manual.

Days 1-3

Days 1-3 of the program are devoted to classroom lecture about planning and providing third party quality assurance, jobsite inspection, operations safety, inspection of concrete surface preparation, and concrete moisture testing. Lectures are supplemented by knowledge checks and workshops.

Day 4

Day 4 will begin with inspection of coating application followed by a coating adhesion testing workshop. Then, students will begin the inspection plan development workshop and simulated QA/QC inspection workshop. Following these workshops, students will take the CCI Level I written exam that consists of 50 multiple-choice questions and a hands-on practical exam on the use of inspection instruments. A passing grade of 70% or higher on both the written and hands-on Level I exam is required to move on to the Level II certification exam given on Day 5.

What is the Next Step After I Complete CCI Level 1?

Students passing both components of the Level 1 course exam at 70% or higher and meeting the prerequisites for Level 2 Certification can take the written and hands-on Level 2 certification exams click here
