SSPC Launches New Concrete Coating Application Specialist Course

July 8, 2019

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Concrete is being used in the construction industry now more than ever and the need to protect it from deterioration is especially crucial.  SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings has developed a new course, Concrete Coating Application Specialist (CCAS), to help satisfy this industry need.

The CCAS course is designed to teach coating applicators the important skills they need to successfully complete a concrete coating project. It provides a comprehensive overview and practical hands-on training for craft worker personnel who wish to be trained and certified in the application of coatings on concrete surfaces.

This course prepares students by providing vital knowledge in the fields of health and safety on a concrete coating project, quality control, concrete composition and durability, concrete condition assessment, concrete repair, concrete surface preparation, and concrete coating application.

“This course was designed with the applicator in mind,” said Anne McHenry, Instructional Design Specialist at SSPC. “Participants are given ample opportunity to practice the skills covered in the curriculum. Interactive elements and hands-on workshops are placed throughout the course to maximize learner engagement.”

With the increased use of concrete comes an increased demand for employers to hire talented, experienced concrete coating applicators. By completing the CCAS course, students will set themselves apart from their peers by enhancing their skills and knowledge of concrete coating and, in turn, provide the industry with a pathway to ensuring critical concrete infrastructures receive protection from deterioration.
