SSPC Seeks Nominations for 2020 Board of Governors Election

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings announced today that it is seeking nominations for candidates for the 2020 Board of Governors election. There is a total of one (1)* open spot in 2020 in the following category:

Facility Owner: Defined in the SSPC bylaws as “Individuals who own or are employed by public or private sector owners of assets who are responsible for the maintenance of coatings of heavy or light industrial structures and surfaces.”

All nominees must be SSPC members and meet the requirements specified in Article IV, Section 2 of the SSPC bylaws (excerpt below):

SECTION 2- NOMINATIONS OF BOARD MEMBERS

Individual Members may be nominated to represent a particular demographic on the Board by a written nomination presented or authorized by another Individual Member in good standing. The nominee must be at least 21 years old and an Individual Member or verified corporate Individual Member for at least Three (3) years. Self-nominations or nominations by a Member of the same organization are not allowed. Previous Board members may be nominated to serve on the Board after that person has been off the Board for a period of five (5) years. These nominations with a letter from the nominee detailing his/her qualifications and reasons for wanting to be a board member shall be filed with the Secretary of the Board for submission to the Governance Committee.

Previous Board members that have been terminated by the Board (as described in Article IV, Section 11) are not eligible for nomination.

The Governance Committee shall select candidates to ensure that the Board composition meets the requirements in Article IV, Section 1. The Governance Committee shall select a slate of candidates from the list of nominees based on their involvement in the industry, involvement in the association, skills, experience and other qualifications detailed in the Governance Committee Charter.

If there is no qualified candidate nominated to run for an open position, the President (with the approval if a majority of the voting members of the Board) has the authority to extend an existing Board Member’s position for a period of one (1) additional year, or appoint a qualified candidate to serve for such one (1) year period. Extensions shall not conflict with the requirements of Article IV, Section 4.

Open Board positions shall be posted publicly by SSPC no later than February 15th. Nominations shall be accepted from February 15th through March 15th.

*NOTE: The original release published on January 20, 2020 indicated that two (2) positions were open for election. Since then, Ross Boyd, who currently fills the “Other Product Supplier” spot on the board, was elected to the Vice President position at the February 1, 2020 Board of Governors meeting in Long Beach, CA.  As a result, his term is automatically extended until he proceeds through the officer rotation (Vice President, President Elect, President, Immediate-Past President) over the next four years.
